Information — Cradle of Aviation Museum

From the first flights by biplanes on the Hempstead Plains to man’s walking on the Moon, Long Island has been on the leading edge of America’s aviation and space adventure.

Long Islanders helped transform aviation from a spectator sport to a major means of commercial transportation.  This region also produced a large portion of America’s aerial arsenal in time of war. Many historic flights that started here, as did many of the aviation companies that helped make aviation the integral part of our world that it is today.  As visitors to the Museum learn, Long Island companies even played a major role in our country’s space program.

The Cradle of Aviation Museum celebrates this heritage with 75 fascinating exhibits, a giant domed-screen theater, the X-Ride flight simulator experience, a historic carousel ride and the Mars-themed Red Planet Cafe.

On Sunday, March 4, 2012, visitors will also get to experience a very special treat with the Museum’s hosting of Chocolate World Expo, Long Island’s first-ever major chocolate show!
